What is Jesus Real Name

By: Michael Haney

For the past several years, many christians have came to realize that the name Jesus is not the God-given name of our saviour. So what is Jesus real name? Does this matter? Should we call our Messiah by some man-made name, or by the name given to him by our heavenly father? Why would it matter? The truth may be more shocking than you know.

Revelation 3:8 KJV – I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

In this study, we will present the evidence and let you draw your own conclusion.

John 5:43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

Jesus real name has become the topic of many discussions, from every level of understanding. Scholars, students, preachers, moms and dads. Some people are extremely passionate about the subject, some however are extremely passive. However, I believe all should seek the truth.

John 8:32 NIV – Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

So then, on with the evidence.

Matthew 1:21 NIV – She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

In the above verse, Gabriel has appeared to Mary and is telling her what she would name her son. This is the first place (in the New Testament) that actually tells us the true name of our Messiah.

It is most important to understand that neither Gabriel nor Mary was speaking English or Greek. They were speaking Hebrew. Some will tell you that they were speaking Aramaic, (which is a blatant lie, but more on this later) but even in Aramaic the evidence is there.

Lets unpack Matthew 1:21 this verse is broken into two parts, a command “you are to give him the name” and a reason for the command “because he will save”. This is a common form of Hebrew poetic verse. The second part always explains the reason behind the first part.

The Hebrew word for “save” is yasha` (yäh·shah’)

Its also important to note the Greek word for “save” which is “sozo” “sō’-zō “

an interesting fact about the name Yahoshua is that it comes from the root ישע‬ yod-shin-‘ayin, meaning “to deliver, save, or rescue”. It also contains the hebrew name of our heavenly Father YHWH (yah, as in Hallalu-Yah) Didnt our messiah say something about coming in his father’s name?

John 5:43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

The name Yahoshua (or Joshua as we say in english) litterly means “Yah is salvation” Thus fulfilling both John 8:32 and Matthew 1:21

Excerpt from wikipedia

“According to the Book of Numbers verse 13:16, the name of Joshua son of Nun was originally Hoshea` הוֹשֵעַ‬, and the name “Yehoshua`” יְהוֹשֻׁעַ‬ is usually spelled the same but with a yod added at the beginning. “Hoshea`” certainly comes from the root ישע‬, “yasha”, yod-shin-`ayin (in the Hif’il form the yod becomes a waw), and not from the word שוע‬ Shúaʻ (Jewish Encyclopedia[14]) although ultimately both roots appear to be related.”

Now the important stuff.. The simple fact of the matter is that I could have just pointed you to any encyclopedia in the world. They all tell us that Jesus real name is Yeshua (2nd temple period form of Yehoshua). For that matter I could have told you a simple google search would answer what was Jesus real name. But there is something more important to discuss concerning his name.

Acts 4:12 NIV – Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

what a powerful verse!! In the hebrew of this verse it clearly says, “Yahshua is found in no one else, for there is no other name (Yahshua) under heaven given to mankind by which we must be Yahsha.”

No other name under heaven??? NO OTHER? NONE? That is what the bible says.

So the truth is this, Our messiah was born a hebrew, to a hebrew woman, with a hebrew name. There was nothing Greek about him. His God-given name was and is Yeshua. That is the TRUTH…

John 8:32 NIV – Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

It is obvious that a lie cannot and will not set you free. It is also a lie to tell people our Messiah’s name was Jesus.

Revelation 3:8 KJV – I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

Argument #3. “Jesus is the English translation of Yeshua”

Matthew 12:34 NIV – You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Proverbs 16:1 NIV – To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue.

Argument #6. “I can say Jesus if I want, He knows who im talking too.”

rebuttal: Proverbs 16:18 NIV – Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
